Kach aloo chaat is a unique speciality of Jammu. Kachaloo is ground potato. this chaat is very simple to make and believe me..........you got to come to Jammu to taste it.................we tried kachaloo chaat after our trip to Bagh-e-Bahu. this is the famous garden and a fort of Jammu, a place of historical importance. outside the gate of Bagh-e-bahu, this kachaloo chaat was sold and that too at just Rs 10 per plate......................Awesome taste
The special taste of the kachaloo chaat is due to the dum given to the Kachaloo for almost 3-4 hours. Now what is Dum???????
Simply put.............in the traditional way, they wash ground potato, put it in a tin, seal the tin top with pasting kneaded flour all around. then this is put on coal and allowed to cook for 3-4 hours. When prepared in charcoal through this methodolgy.............the taste is all together different.
For making Kachaloo chaat at home, we will make the recipe simple, try roasting it in a grill microwave, or simply pressure cook............it will require around 7-8 whistles............though the taste will not be the same, still got to do some alteration to cook at home..............and taste is not bad either........
To get this yummy look.............just peel and cut Ground potato in small cubes, add salt. in a frying pan, add little oil add hing, jeera, lal mirch, amchur powder (dry mango powder), if you want to make it more tangy add some tamarind ...................that's it add a lil water and put Kachaloo in that, mix well.................Serve!!!
